Ling’s Speaking game requires internet access to compare your voice with our online database, so please ensure you have a steady internet connection when using the Speaking game.

If you’re still experiencing problems with the Speaking game, you can try:
  1. Closing the app COMPLETELY (letting the app run in the background doesn’t close the app and will not resolve the issue)
  2. RESET your internet connection on your phone (if possible, you can reset your router as well)
  3. Open the app AGAIN to see if the Speaking game works
    1. Read the word/phrase and prepare yourself to say it aloud in your new language.
      1. Press the record button
        1. Wait for a second or two
    2. Say the requested word/phrase
      1. Wait for a moment.
        1. The app records what you say and sends it to a third party. The third-party transcribes it into text and then sends it back to us. We evaluate the returned text.
    3. The lesson will either auto complete, or you can now press the record button to receive your score.
If that doesn’t work, kindly uninstall and reinstall the app to see if that fixes the problem.

When you learn a language with Ling, the translation for words and sentences and the app’s buttons are displayed in a native language. For example, if you are a Korean person learning Thai, your native language is Korean, while your target language is Thai.

Ling defines the native language in the app as the device’s language. This means that if your phone is in Korean when you open Ling to learn Thai, the translation for Thai words & sentences will automatically be in Korean.

If you want to change the native language on the app, follow these steps:

1. Open the Language Picker screen by tapping the flag on the top left of the Home screen.
2. Tap the language in the “I speak” section.
3. Choose/type the language you want to set as your native language.
4. After the page finishes loading, you should be redirected to the main Language Picker screen again with the updated native language.

If you would like to change your target language (the language you want to learn), please follow the steps below:

1. Open the Language Picker screen by tapping the flag on the top left of the Home screen.
2. Tap the language in the “I want to learn” section
3. Choose/type the language you would like to set up as your native language.
4. It will show the loading page after changing the native language then it will direct you to the main Language Picker screen again.

Ling is a language learning app that helps you learn new languages through fun and interactive exercises. One of the features of Ling-app is that you can listen to native speakers and practice your pronunciation. However, sometimes you might encounter audio issues that prevent you from hearing the sound from the app. Here are some possible causes and solutions for this problem.

Cause 1: Your device’s volume is muted or too low.
  • Solution: Check your device’s volume settings and make sure it is not muted or too low. You can adjust the volume by using the buttons on the side of your device or by swiping down from the top of the screen and tapping the volume icon.

Cause 2: Your device’s sound mode is silent or do not disturb.
  • Solution: Check your device’s sound mode and make sure it is not set to silent or do not disturb. You can change the sound mode by swiping down from the top of the screen and tapping the sound icon. You can also go to your device’s settings and look for sound or notification options.

Cause 3: Your device’s speaker or headphone jack is damaged or dirty.
  • Solution: Check your device’s speaker or headphone jack and make sure it is not damaged or dirty. You can try cleaning it with a soft cloth or a cotton swab. You can also try using a different pair of headphones or speakers to see if the problem persists.

Cause 4: Your app’s audio settings are disabled or incorrect.
  • Solution: Check your app’s audio settings and make sure they are enabled and correct. You can access the audio settings by tapping the menu icon on the top left corner of the app and then tapping settings. You can then tap audio and adjust the volume, speed, and voice options.

Cause 5: Your app’s data or cache is corrupted or outdated.
  • Solution: Check your app’s data or cache and make sure they are not corrupted or outdated. You can clear the data or cache by going to your device’s settings and looking for apps or applications. You can then tap Ling-app and then tap storage. You can then tap clear data or clear cache. Note that this will delete your app’s progress and preferences, so make sure you back up your data before doing this.

If you encounter some sentences or words that don’t have audio, but others do, this issue might be coming from the app. Please send us a report using the “Error Report Button” (Flag or Exclamation mark) from the same screen where you found the issue. This way, we know exactly where the word/sentence is and can fix the sound as soon as possible.

We hope this article helps you fix the audio issues in Ling-app. If you have any questions or face any issues with the app, you can contact [email protected]. We’ll get back to you within 24 hours!
If you are experiencing issues with Ling on your Android device, it is possible that the error message you are seeing is due to a lack of the Google app or disabled microphone permission for the Google app. If you not sure what error message we are metioned here looks like, please see the example below:

Our app relies on Google’s voice recognition technology to support the Speaking game, so it is necessary to have the Google app installed and the microphone permission enabled in order to access this feature.

How can I solve this problem!?
You can easily solve this problem by following the steps below:
  1. Install the Google app from the Google Play Store using the following link here.
  2. Once the Google app is installed, be sure to enable the microphone permission for both the Google app and the Ling app from your device’s Settings screen.
  3. After making these changes, try accessing the Speaking game in the Ling app again to see if the issue has been resolved.

If you have any questions or face any issues with the app, you can contact [email protected]. We’ll get back to you within 24 hours!
This issue could be happening because of the following reasons:

1. No internet connection.
When you open Ling for the first time, it will take more time for the app to download the content from our server. That being said, a strong internet connection is required for this process.

2. Operation System isn’t compatible.
We’re always trying to improve the quality and security of our app by using new technologies. Currently, Ling app is compatible with Android version 5 or higher versions and iOS version 11 or higher versions. If your device is using an outdated OS version, Ling may crash when you open it. Please check and upgrade your OS version first and try opening the app again.

3. Low device storage.
When your device is overloaded with many applications, you risk running out of storage space. This means that Ling won’t be able to download content from our server. In this case, all you need to do is uninstall any unused applications, clear cache and storage, and try opening the app again.

4. The app contains an issue.

If you’ve already checked the three reasons mentioned above but are still facing issues with the app, this could be due to bugs. In this case, please try to uninstall and then reinstall the app on your device. If the issue continues, contact our support team at [email protected]. We will investigate and fix your problem ASAP!

What is the Chatbot?

In general, a chatbot is an artificial intelligence (AI) feature that simulates human conversations. It enables communication through voice commands, text chats or both.

Here at Ling, we are proud to also have our own Chatbot! You can use this feature to practice a real conversation with our Ling Bot by saying the sentence or choosing the sentence you prefer. You can use this feature on both our app and website, Ling web.
  1. For the app, tap the “Chatbot” button at the bottom of the screen.
  2. For the website, click on the “Chatbot” button at the top left-hand corner of the page.
There are 20 topics available in the app and on the web, and we also have sentences and a microphone button in each lesson to use in the conversation. You can either choose one of the given sentences or say one of the given sentences to have a conversation with our Ling Bot.

However, since iOS and Android devices support the chatbot differently in some languages, this can be the reason why some languages have a microphone button, and some don’t. If you want to say a sentence instead of selecting them in a language that isn’t supported on your device, you can try on our website, Ling web.

Here’s how to use our chatbot feature:
  1. Open the app and tap the “Chatbot” button at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Choose the lesson topic that you’d like to practice.
  3. Choose a sentence from the list and tap “Send” to continue the conversation.
  4. You can also record your voice by tapping the “record” button (This button will appear depending on the language you learn and whether that language is supported on your device or not)
  5. You can turn the translation button on/off to practice the conversation.

If you have any questions or face any issues with the app, you can contact [email protected]. We’ll get back to you within 24 hours!

At Ling, we want to unite the world by connecting people from different cultures.
One of Ling’s best features is the Streak feature, which encourages users to complete their daily lessons in order to maintain their progress.

The Streak feature keeps track of the number of consecutive days that a user has completed their daily lesson and gives users motivation to continue their language learning journey and not fall behind!
Important note, the streak resets every day at 12:00 AM UTC. This means if you are in the Perth, Australia and you study at 6:30 AM one morning and you do not study again until 12:15 PM the next day, you will have missed a day, and your streak will have ended.

Where can I see my streak details?
      1. Log in to your Ling account.
      2. Tap on the flame icon.
      3. Here you can view the days that you have learned this or previous months, as well as your current overall streak.
      4. Tap anywhere on the screen to go back to the course homepage.
      5. Tap the circle with your first initial in the top right of the screen.
      6. Scroll down to the bottom of the page.
      7. Here you can view your Longest Streak. This is the longest number of days that you
have ever learned in a consecutively.
      8. Here you will be able to see your Current Streak. This is the current number of days
in a row that you’ve completed lessons.
      9. And finally, we also show your Number of Streak Days: This shows 7 days, from
Monday to Sunday, and marks which days that you either completed or didn’t complete a lesson.
  1. A circle (0) indicates days where you completed a lesson.
  2. A cross (X) indicates days where you didn’t complete a lesson.

Friendly reminder: If you miss one day of learning, your current streak will be lost.
